Kansas City Chiefs: Patrick Mahomes’ Bold Response

The Kansas City Chiefs came into Sunday’s AFC playoff game as underdogs for the first time with Patrick Mahomes as quarterback.

The Chiefs, after taking a big 17-7 halftime lead at M&T Bank Stadium, held on late to secure a return trip to the Super Bowl. They beat the Ravens 17-10 in the AFC championship game, ending the Ravens’ huge run in the AFC.

Patrick Mahomes— who’s been to three Super Bowls — had other ideas in the first half while leading the Chiefs to a 17-7 halftime lead. Kansas City dominated the ball and the box score while holding a 20:39 to 9:21 advantage in time of possession. Baltimore got on the board with a big pass play from Jackson to Zay Flowers, but Mahomes and the  Kansas City Chiefs controlled the first half. Travis Kelce, who surpassed Jerry Rice’s postseason receptions record, caught the first touchdown of the day for Kansas City.

That continued through in the second half, too. The Ravens, despite holding the Chiefs scoreless, struggled to get much of any offense going. Jackson threw a bad interception into triple coverage in the end zone in the fourth quarter, too. The Chiefs held Baltimore to just three points in the second half and secured the seven-point win.

The Chiefs will now move on to its fourth Super Bowl in five seasons, where either the San Francisco 49ers or Detroit Lions will be waiting for them in Las Vegas.

Kansas City Chiefs Patrick Mahomes Makes Bold Statement After Beating The Ravens As An Underdog

Mahomes and the Chiefs offense were rolling throughout the first half — and from the opening drive — it was clear the Kansas City QB had a chip on his shoulder.

After the game, Tony Romo said it best.

“If you are an oddsmaker in Vegas or anyone ever responsible for making the odds, you should learn from this and never make Patrick Mahomes an underdog again.”

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was asked about coming into the game as an underdog in the post-game interview on CBS and was asked specifically about knocking off the Baltimore Ravens as an underdog.

“It’s been a heck of a year.” Mahomes said. “We’ve come into a lot of games as underdogs this season, but we never feel like underdogs. We have a lot of guys on this team that have played in a lot of big games, an today we were able to make it happen. Now we are in the Super Bowl, and we aren’t done yet. We are ready to go out to Vegas and play a great team and see if we can go out and win an another Super Bowl.”
