Man Utd spring into action as Paris Saint-Germain ready to sell Kylian Mbappe this summer

Kylian Mbappe has written to PSG to tell them he won’t extend his contract by one year to 2025, which could spark a massive summer bidding war.

The France international could now be sold over the coming months, otherwise PSG face the possibility of losing one of the world’s best players for nothing at the end of next season.

The 24-year-old, signed from Monaco for £160million in 2018 which was a world-record fee for a teenager, continues to be linked with a move to both Manchester United and Real Madrid.

Indeed, perspective United owner Sheikh Jassim wants to make the outstanding forward his headline signing if he takes over from the Glazers at Old Trafford.

According to reports, France World Cup winner Mbappe left the PSG hierarchy stunned by the decision which was presented in a formal letter and follows on from Lionel Messi announcing his departure to Major League Soccer side Inter Miami.

PSG now appear set to have to weigh up whether to sell Mbappe – who scored a hat-trick in France’s defeat by Argentina in the 2022 World Cup final – or see him leave the club for nothing at the end of his current deal in June 2024.

Reports in France had suggested PSG were hopeful over an extension to Mbappe’s contract.

United, Real given major Mbappe signing lift

However, United and Real Madrid could now step up their interest as they both look to bolster their forward lines this summer.

The Red Devils are yet to replace Cristiano Ronaldo following his exit last December, while Real lost veteran frontman Karim Benzema to Saudi champions Al-Ittihad recently.

In terms of United’s interest, everything really does depend on Sheikh Jassim’s bid for the club becoming successful.
